Five men, aged 28 and 44, were arrested on charges of murder, after having plunged into the water more illegal immigrants under a voodoo ritual intended to “restrain anger of the sea”, The Sun.
They were together with the other nearly 400 people on board a craft. Survivors recount that 12 people have been selected for the supreme sacrifice after the engine was a craft that in Libya in Italy broke down.
The victims appear to have been decided after the ritual dance of many Nigerian women. Once chosen, the 12 people were thrown overboard by the master of the craft.
The ritual was intended to spare the dive boat.
Once inside in an island of Lampedusa, Italy, the other 25 of the dead were found aboard the craft, the most likely victims of smoke released by the engine broke down.
The persons arrested are from West Africa.
Just this year, more than 30,000 people have fled to the revolutions of the Arab countries, North Africa, to the Italian island of Lampedusa. Many of their boats were sunk.
