Eva Ionesco, born July 18, 1965 in Paris, is the daughter of photographer Irina Ionesco. She made her first screen appearance in The Tenant (1976), Roman Polanski, 11 years. My Little Princess is her first film as a director.
What is the part of reality in the film?
The reality is much more trash than the movie! My mother made me pose in photos to the limit of pornography from the age of 4 years. Three times a week, for ten years. And it was blackmail: if I did not I would not have beautiful dress. And especially I would not my mom. My mother has never raised, our single report, it was the pictures. This is not seen in the film is that I was also sold to erotic photographers, she was a mother madam. I have never received a single penny on the images. It is she who lived in the large apartment, with dresses. Up to 9 years old, I had no right to have friends. I climbed over the window and I never returned.
Why have watered?
People have told me that I had excused my mother that I was betrayed! There is support autobiographical, but I wanted to make a fiction. I wanted to translate this story into something romantic. I have not shown the worst Isabelle Huppert pictures because it played with a gun at your fingertips, she wanted to defend myself! There she built a character. My obsession is not the first to settle my accounts. This film is part of a trilogy, we see growing Violetta, who goes to Palace …
In the film, you do photography as a dangerous act.
Isabelle Huppert load the camera as a weapon. The image locks, it makes the character mute. Shoot me was put me in a box, say “Be beautiful and shut up”. When conducting experiments on itself, it is not a problem. But we must recognize that the other exists and that it has the right to say shit.
You talk to your mother?
Through their lawyers. I am on trial. She does not want me to make prints and negatives. It continues to sell a lot of photos. In Japan, there are still a lot of stuff, CDs erotic. Irina Ionesco people believe, it’s just vintage photos with a little princess that undresses. But I do not care about the garter belt! We must speak of things as they are: I want to ban pictures where we see sex and anus.
You understand why it did so?
This is abysmal. But the film can understand this a little too narcissistic. She started photography late. She became an object of seduction through these images, it is she who is the main subject. The artistic act is that my mother was denied, abandoned by her family. In the room where her mother abandoned her, facing the cemetery, she made a fiery studio and one bedroom with skulls, crosses – all in one HLM shit! She sought death, she found Georges Bataille, who subjugated. My mother was never renewed, that says it all morbid and poisonous side of the company.
How do you rate the pictures of Irina Ionesco?
It was the Pope of eroticism. His style is reminiscent of Helmut Newton and Sarah Moon. Baroque is not my thing, but there’s still unquestionable quality in his images. We must separate the substance and form, me is the background that I doubt erotic. There is a great deception in his images is linked to fashion, it is a poison.
Do you think these photos would be possible today?
Today, there is less enthusiasm General. But the fascination remains. And these images were already scandal in the 1970s.
What was your relationship with photography?
For once, I bathed in the images. I saw a lot of movies. And I did photography: portraits, but at first I had trouble photographing people directly, I put layers. Then I staged sacrifices of toys, clothes child … But I did not accountable to photography. I made a documentary on Indian cinema, and lots of photos for Christian Louboutin.
You photographed your children?
I’ve never done pictures of my son. From him I have nothing but old school photos! Besides, it does not let photographed.
