Ariel Castro, the torturer who kidnapped three women in his Cleveland home for almost ten years, was found dead 30 to 21 hours, Tuesday, Sept. 3, in his cell in the segregation of the Orient prison, Ohio. He was transferred to a hospital where he was pronounced died an hour and a half later.
Michelle Knight, 32, Amanda Berry, 27, and Gina DeJesus, 23 were removed between 2002 and 2004 when they were aged respectively 20, 16 and 14. They escaped on May 6, after one of them had managed to call a neighbor for help.
The investigation revealed that during their confinement, the three women had been beaten and raped on numerous occasions. Amanda Berry had a daughter, Jocelyn, 6 years old at the time of their release. DNA analysis confirmed that Ariel Castro was his father.
Sentenced to life imprisonment on August 1, as well as more than a thousand years in prison, having been found guilty of nine hundred and thirty to seven charges, including kidnapping and rape, Ariel Castro, 53 , had pleaded guilty under an agreement with prosecutors allowing him to escape the death penalty.
Of his four victims, only Michelle Knight was presented at the hearing to testify, telling the plight of his eleven years in prison. Very excited, she addressed him in running: “I lived eleven years of hell, now your hell is just beginning.”
