Seven countries in the EU, most notably Germany, were willing to vote against the entry of Romania and Bulgaria into the Schengen area, if both countries sought membership at the meeting of EU ministers scheduled for March 7.
Germany has recommended to Romania and Bulgaria to redo the umpteenth request for accession to the Schengen area without systematic border.
“If at the meeting of interior ministers today, you will drop the request, warned Berlin, I put my veto.” And one not enough to close the file.
Both countries seem totally resigned, knowing that behind Germany there is a herd of countries that support frankly Germany (as the Netherlands, Finland and France) who support discreetly or (other).
And therefore Romania and Bulgaria floating in limbo Schengen.
Bulgaria and Romania have modernized their borders with non-EU countries formed their customs, adopted the system. While Romanians and Bulgarians are technically ready, and it is the Commission who said, Europeans are suspicious vis-à-vis the Schengen area they do not want to expand.
